Organic Thyme

Organic Thyme

5.10

This type of thyme is also known as “thyme head”, and, according to bibliographical sources, it is a famous nectar source for bees, providing us with the well-known “thyme honey”. It is a very common species of Greek flora as it grows in stony and barren soils on hills and mountains, such as Mount Olympus.

It is an extremely mealy plant with a high content of essential oil, which, according to research, is distinguished for its special antiseptic, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. However, it is also considered toxic to our body, mainly because it contains a phenol called “thymol”. As a result, ingesting it is prohibited and it may only be used externally, after diluting it in oil.

In its dried form, this herb is used either in plain beverages or blended with other herbs, while also being a famous Greek cuisine herb. Its biological effects are numerous, since it is traditionally used for the treatment of respiratory disorders (laryngitis, bronchitis, asthma, cough, pertussis), dental diseases, urinary tract infection and indigestion. It is also known for its spasmolytic and digestive action, as it facilitates digestion, stimulates appetite, absorbs fat, and can improve arthritis with regular consumption.
